HAM Basic Course
The club has decided to run an in-person Basic course here in Halifax. Here are the details,
Course: Amateur Radio Basic Course based on the COAX Basic Study Guide, the ‘Green Book’.
Cost: $30 for HARC expenses plus $50 for the Green Book if needed.
Location: Fire Station 50, 2050 Hammonds Plains.
Timeframe: 11 weeks, beginning September 21. There will be ten weeks of instruction and the 11th week to write the exam. Review days may be added as needed.
Instruction will be on Saturday mornings, starting at 9 a.m. and ending at 1 or 2 p.m., depending on the course material.
The Club costs to go-to material and instructors’ out-of-pocket costs. The book cost is our cost for purchasing and providing the study guide, which hasn’t changed in a number of years. Find a Ham and see if you can borrow their copy.
Taking the HARC course is shorter and more intense than the RAC online course. 10 sessions vs. 17 sessions. However, the class size will be smaller, and there will be club members who can help mentor you. You’ll also receive Associate membership in the Club until the end of the year and free membership for 2025 if you so desire.
Membership in the club, either Associate or Full, gives you the opportunity to participate in Club events and activities and use the Club station (supervised while learning). Check out recent activities in our newsletter (The Reflector), available through our web page, http://halifax-arc.org.
