This year’s activation holds special meaning as we mark the 89th anniversary of the 1936 Moose River Mining Disaster, one of the most remarkable rescue efforts in Canadian history. The tragedy—and the heroic efforts that followed—captivated a nation, with live radio broadcasts that brought the drama into homes across the country for the very first time.
To commemorate this pivotal moment in history, the Moose River Gold Mine Museum Society welcomes you to explore the museum and historic park, join in wireless emergency communications demonstrations, and take a moment to reflect on the powerful role radio played in the rescue mission.
☕ Enjoy free coffee, tea, and homemade doughnuts, courtesy of our community partners.
🎙 Whether you’re an experienced ham or new to the hobby, this is a great chance to get on the air, activate a beautiful provincial park, and connect with fellow operators. Bring your gear or hop on one of our stations!
Let’s remember the past, engage the present, and promote the future of amateur radio together.
See you at Moose River!
