Environment Canada Weather

Environment Canada hourly weather conditions and forecasts
are now available from the VE1NSG IRLP node. They can be
accessed from the VE1HNS repeater (146.94) by dialling
30 for the current conditions, 35 for the forecast and 40 for the
outlook. Always give your callsign when accessing this service. Any
abuse of anonymous callups of the weather will result in a change of codes.

Super Reflectors

All IRLP reflectors have been converted to 'Super Reflectors'. This
has the benefit of increased capacity on each reflector as well as
channelizing the server.

Each reflector is capable of 10 individually, connectable channels. This
means that a particular reflector can have 10 separate multi conversations
going on at once. On most reflectors, the last two channels have been
designated GSM channels, meaning they are meant to link up GSM nodes
(GSM nodes run a heavier compression scheme and allow nodes with
dialup internet to work with IRLP). The first eight are ADPCM, which
is what the majority of nodes use for compression.

To link to a reflector channel, simply select what reflector you want, then
make the 4th digit of it's code channel you want to be on. For example:

Saskatoon Reflector is 9300
Dialling 9300 will put you on channel 0
Dialling 9307 will put you on channel 7

Dialling 9604 will put you on channel 4 of the Australian Reflector

Other Miscellaneous News

Timeout timers and disabling them for nets is possible. You have to dial a
code before dialling a node or reflector to disable to timeout for the
that connection only. Contact Rob VE1KS if you want the code for use on nets.
