Hello, I am a retired radio and telecommunications technician. I started with Maritime Tel & Tel mobile radio shop in 1980. I have seen a lot of the pre-computer age of communications. In the early 1980's I worked on Sable Island installing proto-type VHF-UHF cross band full duplex repeater links between the mainland and the oil rigs working off of Sable Island with the island being the middle link. I also have many other communication stories. i have worked around the world and have seen and experienced a few real-world system-wide outage and failures. One outage in 1975 caused all of Nova Scotia to have no toll (long distance) telephone connectivity to the rest of Canada and the world. I live on the panisula of Halifax but I don't have a car and I have mobility issues. I would like to go. The bus gets me close but I would have to walk with my rollator from the bus stop to the field day. It sounds interesting.
